The Good Start Trust, registered in 2017 as a Trust by the Master of the High Court, has been awarded tax exemption and Public Benefit Organisation (PBO) status. Non-Profit Organisation (NPO) status was successfully applied for. We may issue 18A Tax Certificates to donors, and have been Vat Registered.

Meet The Trustees
Aletta Ashmore
I have specialised in assessing and teaching children with specific learning difficulties for many years. It is my deep desire to enable children who need educational support to access that support, even if they cannot afford it. I believe that the Good Start Trust will allow these children with whom we work, to have more hope of achieving their potential in life.

Amy Haworth
I am a qualified Foundation Phase Educator, as well as a School Counsellor registered with the HPCSA. I am involved with the Smart Club and have been assisting young learners at Good Hope Seminary Junior School to get the support they need to learn and grow in today’s society. I have recently been appointed as a Learning Support Educator for the Western Cape Education Department.

Adrienne Millner
I am a recently retired school principal who has worked in education for 30 years. My passion has been working with children who need support to fully access the curriculum. The Good Start Trust ensures this access on two important levels: feeding hungry children, and assisting children with learning barriers to reach their full potential. I firmly believe every child deserves equal opportunity to develop their skills in order to later fulfil their role in society. I currently work as a Facilitator for learners who experience difficulties in mainstream learning.

Esmeralda Phillips
It is my passion to work with the underprivileged and with special needs children. This is my reason for being a trustee of the Good Start Trust.
I recently retired after 10 years as an educator at Alpha School for Learners with Autism in Woodstock, Cape Town. My previous experience includes: teaching special needs children at Agape and Vista Nova schools, counselling boys at the Ottery School of Industry, play therapy facilitation courses under the guidance of Dr Rachel Pinney in the UK and Jane Bytheway in South Africa, facilitation at the Parent Centre in Cape Town, presenting toddler discipline workshops to parents, various talks at institutions, and training new facilitators. I was the guidance counsellor at Christel House South Africa, founded by American philanthropist Christel DeHaan, where I worked with underprivileged high school children.

“The plight of underprivileged children, who are so much part of the South African tapestry, is my primary focus. I want to help these children to face day-to-day challenges with the help of the Breakfast Club. One simple, good meal leads to a healthy, happy child. Investing in them today ensures a brighter tomorrow.”
One of the founder Trustees of the Good Start Trust, Patsy continues to pursue her passion as Supervisor of the Breakfast Club at Good Hope Seminary Junior School. Patsy was key in helping to establish this programme.
